Meet our dietitian Meaghan
Meaghan is an Accredited Practicing Dietitian (APD), her speciality lies in weight management strategies. Meaghan also has an interest in chronic medical conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus, high blood pressure and high cholesterol.
Individuals with an elevated body weight, such as a BMI over 25, have an increased risk of developing osteoarthritis of the knee. Reducing body weight can not only help reduce this risk, it can also help to delay the need for surgery and may aid in the surgical recovery process.
How a dietitian can help you
Meaghan will work with you to help you reach your pre and post-surgery goals by:
- Provide you with a plan of attack tailored to your needs.
- Support you through your weight-loss journey.
- Take the confusion out of weight-loss strategies.
- Make your surgery safer.
A BMI over 25 can increase OA pain and symptoms and can impact your quality of life. Weight loss of 1kg reduces the load on the knee joint by approx 4kg.
Reducing body weight makes the knee joint more accessible for the surgeon and makes your recovery faster.
Good nutrition assists in optimal recovery and can help with wound healing post-surgery.
