Given that all elective surgery has been cancelled for the foreseeable future, we have decided to put together a few suggestions that can help our CKC patients manage their knee symptoms until we can get your surgery done.
Keep your weight under control
- For males keep your body weight under 90kg
- For females keep your body weight under 80kg
- Remember that each kg we don’t carry around our waists is 5kg relief for our knees
Avoid
- high-impact activities or activities such as heavy work in the garden
- Repetitive activities that cause knee pain
- Long walks/jogging/running
- Slopes / hills / stairs
- Narcotic pain killers as they are addictive and best avoided for knee pain
Consider regular use of
- Panadol Osteo
- Nurofen
- Turmeric or
- Fish oil
Maintain
- Good thigh muscle strength & tone
- Regular exercise program
- Knee joint flexibility with gentle daily stretches
Exercise should involve:
- Pilates
- Yoga
- Swimming or Hydro in your pool at home if you have one
- Bike – exercise bike or trainer
- Rower
- Elliptical trainer
Use ice or heat to relieve pain
